Universal Tier and Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS)

Summary

This blog is the seventh in a monthly series centered around Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports. Last month, we discussed how assessment & data-based decision-making are focused on ensuring efficient assessment systems are used to drive effective data-based decisions within continuous improvement. This month, we are sharing the importance of Universal Tier and its impact on MTSS.

Universal Tier and MTSS: Universal Tier is the evidence-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment critical for learner success. Universal instruction in Iowa must align with the Iowa Academic Standards and local behavioral expectations & skills for learning that outline what educators are expected to teach and students are expected to learn.
