Summary
The Iowa Department of Education is offering in-person professional learning sessions to learn more about implementing the 2024 Iowa Academic Standards for Mathematics, which were revised in May 2024.
Please note this is not a repeat of the virtual sessions held in May and June. These sessions will provide more in-depth learning around specific aspects of the Academic Standards for Mathematics, including:
- Focus Levels
- Identify the major work of grade levels or courses
- Aspect of Rigor
- Define the aspects of rigor and their characteristics
- Discuss exemplars for instruction
- Fluency
- Define fluency
- Identify fluency standards for grade levels or courses
- Standards of Mathematical Practice
- Define the characteristics of SMPs bundles
- Crosswalk Document
- Explore the changes at your specific grade level
In-person sessions to discuss district implementation will be held at the following dates and locations*. *All sessions for grades K-8 will be from 8–11:30 am and grades 9-12 will be held 12:30–4 pm on each date:
- July 30: Huxley Learning Center, Huxley
- July 31: Green Hills AEA, Creston
- August 1: Northwest AEA, Sioux City
- August 7: Central Rivers AEA, Cedar Falls
- August 8: US Guard Armory, Iowa City
